Before using for the first time, each hotplate - without a pot - must be heated at the highest level for approx. 5 minutes to burn in the plate coating. This pre-treatment is important to ensure that the heating plate achieves its optimum surface strength and protective effect. The brief development of smoke is harmless and does not pose a health risk. After the plate has cooled down, clean it with a damp cloth if necessary - and it is ready for many years of use.
